Who is Eligible
The GirlsxMRO program will introduce advanced math topics to young math-talented girls and nonbinary students who are eager to learn math that is beyond the school curriculum and scope of math competitions. We would like our students to meet the following criteria:
You must be female or nonbinary in gender identity.
You must turn 13 by the start of the program and should be enrolled in 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th grade next school year.
We require that you have a solid understanding of Algebra I concepts.
For live Zoom sessions, there are no additional requirements for math background. These sessions are open to all students who meet the previous criteria. We encourage you to attend the first math lecture to decide whether the level will work for you.
Reading Groups require a more advanced mathematical background, asynchronous time, and active participation, and each reading group has limited space. Thus, each reading group will have its own prerequisites and additional requirements for math background. These are available on the Reading Groups page.
Whether or not you have participated in math competitions is NOT important to us. We are looking for girls and nonbinary students who are passionate and interested in learning advanced math!
To participate, students need a device with internet access and preferably a working camera and microphone. Our program itself is free of charge.
You do not have to attend all events. Students can choose to attend as many (or as few) live Zoom sessions, office hours, game nights, and reading groups as they are interested in participating in.
Not sure if you are fit for our program? No worries! You can email us with questions at girlsxmro@gmail.com or fill out the form on the Contact page.
